Skateboard School & Magnet Powered Trucks
Rubicon skateboards have launched a travelling skateboarding school
so you can actually go to school and learn how to skateboard rather than learning stuff off of people like me online.
They've managed to get in with the Duke Of Edinburgh award scheme too so you can now officially skateboard as part of your extra curricular activities. Quite good, unlike...
Want To Ride Faster With Less Effort?
Some guy has invented magnetically powered trucks
that are supposed to roll your board all on their own and generally speed you up and make it easier to ride around.
I'm dubious about this idea and seriously doubt it will ever take off. I don't think there are many skaters that skate simply to effortlessly ride about (something like soapshoes would be much better for that) and I also don't think skateboarding is the best market for gimmicky things like this.
But can you guess the worst thing about these trucks?
They only roll one way, so you can't ride in switch or fakie!
Levi, there have never been comments on the articles, only the blog posts :)

its kool but it sounds like cheating and it sux that u cant ride fakie or switch!
Posted by james on 26th of September 2006
You can ride switch or fakie, you just have to keep the board pointing the same way all the time.

anyway, they would still be crap because you couldnt do many tricks to fakie, like on ramps or 180s etc

Well, I see a lot of potential for longboarding. As well many other applications for a technology that puts out more energy than is put in! UMMMMM!

Heh, didn't think of that. Maybe someone should contact the guy and tell him to make longboard wheels instead.

pshh.
next they'll have decks that do tricks FOR you.

thats fucken gay why would u try to ruin skateboarding
Posted by jon on 14th of October 2006
thats fuckin gay dude its just lazy there would be no sense of acomplisment there, like when i landed my first fakie back side 360 it felt so good to land it because i had been working on it for almost 4 months, with that shit there wouldnt be that good feeling when you land a new trick, you wouldnt of been able to ride fakie anyway w/ those trucks but i was just using that as an example.

It's quite obvious the thing isn't made for random tricks, but simply for riding (which as was stated in the news bit, isn't exactly the reason people skate). I imagine it could do well with longboards, but I don't know.

Heheheh!
This is a f*cking joke!
I'm sure they'll make boards
that do tricks by itself!
What a sad day for skateboarding
if that's gonna happen.. meh.

Posted by Michael Garner on 29th of December 2006
That's so stupid! I mean, I hate the feeling of being aided by something after I've done something good.

I don't think they will ruin skateboarding, seeing as the majority of people who skate, skate because it gives a sense of accomplishment and nobody will get that with this crap.

how about making some more beginner's courses?
Posted by nothing on 30th of March 2007
What's the point in that crap? That takes away the whole feel off accomplishment. And anyway , you can't skate fakie with them.
